Plug Wallet 2025 Review and 2026 Roadmap for Cross-Chain DeFi
2025 marked a major step forward for Plug Wallet as a cross chain crypto wallet. Over the course of the year, Plug evolved from a wallet focused on a limited set of ecosystems into a broader multi chain and cross chain DeFi wallet, designed to let users hold, manage, and interact with assets across Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, ICP, EVM networks, and more.
The year began with the introduction of in wallet ICP staking, powered by WaterNeuron. This allowed users to earn yield on ICP directly from a non custodial wallet, without relying on external platforms. Shortly after, Plug Intelligence was released, bringing AI powered assistance into the wallet to help users track market trends, portfolio performance, and token activity.
Bitcoin support expanded significantly in 2025. Plug integrated Odin.fun, enabling native interaction with runes. At the same time, cross chain infrastructure was strengthened through the launch of an EVM to ICP bridge, powered by OneSec, initially focused on stablecoins and designed to support broader cross chain DeFi use cases.
As the year progressed, Plug added support for all major EVM networks, as well as Dogecoin. Swaps between EVM networks and Solana were introduced, followed by a key milestone for the product: full cross chain swaps. Users can swap assets across Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, ICP, and EVM networks from a single non custodial wallet, without relying on centralized exchanges.
DeFi functionality also expanded with the integration of Hyperliquid. This brought perpetual futures and leverage trading directly into Plug, allowing users to open, manage, and close positions from their wallet. Later in the year, Plugbook was released, introducing a one username for all chains system. Plugbook simplifies crypto identity by letting users send assets across supported chains using a single human readable username, reducing errors and improving user experience across a cross chain wallet.
Alongside these larger releases, 2025 included many improvements focused on usability and performance. These included a new sidebar for the browser extension, multi currency 24 hour portfolio change tracking, faster balance synchronization across all supported chains, automatic token detection and registry updates, a more complete activity view with swap and transaction history, faster loading times, and UI refinements across both mobile and extension. While incremental, these changes materially improved how the crypto wallet performs day to day.
Looking ahead to 2026, Plug will continue to expand as a cross chain DeFi wallet, with several major releases planned for Q1 2026. A web version of Plug is scheduled to launch, allowing users to access their wallets and DeFi activity directly from the browser, with support for login via Plug, Internet Identity, Oisy, Phantom, MetaMask, and other wallets. In parallel, cross chain borrow and lending is also planned for Q1, enabling users to lend and borrow assets across supported networks within a single non custodial interface.
Following these releases, Plug will focus on Earn and yield products, expanding beyond swaps and trading. The goal is to introduce cross chain earning opportunities across all supported chains, aggregating the most competitive yield options available on the market and making them accessible directly from the wallet. This next phase is designed to further position Plug as a complete crypto wallet for cross chain DeFi.
